EPiC Legacy Project enriches others through music

Epworth recently launched its EPiC (Epworth in Community) Legacy Project which enables us to enrich and empower the lives of others by sharing our music expertise. Initiated by PSI Projects and in collaboration with the Epworth Foundation, it centres around a teacher and choir development partnership between Epworth’s music department and several local, less well-resourced schools.
The four-year project involves an Epworth music trainer visiting the schools on a regular basis to coach their choirs and teachers, as well as a termly teachers’ workshop on campus with Epworth music staff aimed at enriching the music teaching experience. Every year will end with a music festival that will take the form of a massed choir event.
Epworth music department staff members were delighted to collaborate with teachers from eight different schools at their first workshop, held in the Performing Arts Centre. The focus was on sharing practical knowledge such as how to arrange choirs, how to conduct physical and vocal warmups and how to best arrange auditions. Our Grade 6 pupils joined in on the activities, acting as the “models” for some of the sessions. The workshop ended on a high note: a concert in the chapel with the High School choir.
