Inaugural Tshela adventure inspires Grade 9s

Our Grade 9 pupils recently embarked on the inaugural Epworth Tshela Adventure in the KZN Drakensburg and Lesotho, which is designed as a life-changing experience and one that aims to challenge on every level: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Named “Tshela”, which is a SeSotho word for crossing, the adventure involved crossing mountain passes, wildlife tracks and streams, but also one that involved crossing over to a changed sense of self and perspective on life.

For a two-week period, the pupils, accompanied by staff team leaders, hiked, mountain biked and horse rode some extremely tough and rugged areas. The pupils were divided into three separate groups and had to rely on and encourage each other to get through each day’s activity. Together, they stretched their comfort zones, learnt new skills and experienced the beauty and wonder of nature.
