In celebration of its 125th year, Epworth was out in full force at the 2023 Dusi Canoe Marathon. Six current pupils (Jessica Behn, Rachel van Deventer, Jenna Curry, Caitlyn Odell, Tori Little and Maisy Diedricks), along with a staff contingent of six, participated in the grueling three-day event. Amongst these was Principal of Epworth High School, Tracey Munro, who experienced parts of the race with her former pupil and renowned young paddler, Tracey Oellermann.
Rachel van Deventer came second in the women’s U18 (8th woman) event, Coach Lorna Oliver (completing her 35th Dusi) was the first K1 sub master, Maisy and Noah Diedricks came first in the K2 U23 event and Epworthians, Jordan Peek and Shannon-Ann Parker-Dennison, were third overall (women) and first U23 respectively. Special accolades go to Leigh du Plessis and her partner, Lance Bartlett, for receiving the Chairman’s award for stopping to help a fellow paddler in distress.
