Vibrant Epworth-on-the-move programme

The annual Epworth-on-the-move programme is all about learning beyond the classroom. Pupils in Grades 8 to 11 actively “get on the move” and participate in unique, hands-on experiences.

For the first day and a half, the Grade 8s worked with Dlalanathi to make dolls for donating to children in need, wrote letters to their mentors, created storybooks, and make good luck cards for the matrics. They then attended a camp at Baynesfield Dam that focused on teamwork and leadership.

The Grade 9 Tshela journey provided a life-changing opportunity for the girls to find a deeper sense of self, discover more about their capabilities and strengths, learn about their peers and persevere through challenges. Their 14-day journey in the surrounds of the Drakensberg mountains included hiking, mountain biking, camping, cycling, horse riding and river activities.

The Grade 10s participated in the Vogue programme, towards which they have been working all year. They engaged with Singakwenza to make toys from recycled materials and then joined Maritzburg College and Thandanani Children’s Foundation in Imbali. Together, they renovated two creches, painting, decorating and fixing the interior and exterior buildings. They also interacted with some of the children and teachers.

The Grade 11s gained valuable experience through their work placements with various external organisations. They then visited Spirit of Adventure, where they learned about teamwork and were pushed out of their comfort zones to accomplish challenging tasks.
