Epworth attains Emerald Eco-Schools’ award

Epworth recently received its Emerald award for eco-excellence from the WildLife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA). The highest accolade in the Eco-School family, this award recognises the school’s 20-year commitment to the environment. “Your hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder of your accomplishment. Your journey to success has been nothing short of remarkable, as you have faced countless challenges and emerged victorious on each occasion”, said WESSA.

Back in 2003, Epworth was part of the pilot programme for Eco-Schools and was one of the first two schools in South Africa to become part of the initiative. Since then, it has been accredited each year for its continuous commitment to improve the school’s environmental performance.

Eco-Schools is an international programme that was developed to support environmental learning in the classroom. It is active in 68 countries and 59 000 schools around the world. In South Africa, more than 4500 schools have participated in the programme.
