Epworth canoeists take centre stage at Dusi

Epworth canoeists took centre stage at this year’s Dusi Canoe Marathon. They dominated the podium on all levels, proving why the school is top in the country for canoeing.

The dynamo duo of Grade 12 pupil, Jessica Behn, and past Epworth pupil, Abby Solms, clinched the women’s K2 title, beating their closest rivals by 14 minutes. Jessica also wrote her name into the record books by becoming the youngest winner in the race’s history.

Epworth paddlers took the top two spots in the U18 girls’ K2 category with Keira Hunter and Daisy May Odell coming first and Hana Newlands and Tayla Norton, second. Epworth past pupils were a force to be reckoned with in the U23 category with Amy Hulett, Shannon-Ann Parker-Dennison, Caitlyn Odell, Rachel van Deventer and Sarah Jones featuring in the top four K2s. Pippa McGregor, also a past pupil, teamed up with her husband, Hank McGregor, to win the mixed doubles title. Current Grade 11 pupil, Abbey Hackland, paddling with her father, was the fourth mixed doubles boat home. A total of eight Epworth pupils successfully completed the race.
